Highly recommend...!

I highly recommend this book. Do not go by the suggested age range of 8 to 13!!! I'm 48 and loving this book. My son is 14 and reading every page!!! 6 and 7 year olds could enjoy this too. Ok. So getting past the age suggestion, this is a well laid out book. It has boxes, illustrations, and so much more. The layout makes it EASY to read, and it's not your typical paragraph book which really can get boring. This book is far from boring. It's jam packed full of useful information. I can't say enough about it. It is a high quality book.

Great book for learning and entertainment

My 8 year old son and I both enjoy this book! He loves interesting facts and cool stories about survival and isn't squeamish when the book talks about eating bugs or taking care of wounds. I love the combination of short (true) stories, facts about nature, survival tips, and illustrations. Very cool book!

Publishers Weekly

Grylls, star of the television series Man vs. Wild, advises readers on surviving anything nature can throw at them: savannahs and jungles, deserts, polar regions, mountains and forests, and rivers and oceans. Grylls strikes a playful tone, featuring dangerous circumstances that most readers are unlikely to experience (surviving an elephant or polar bear attack, for example). Yet many survival tips and skills are a bit more practical, such as learning to roll a kayak or tie knots. Grylls doesn’t emphasize his own experience in the wild beyond occasional anecdotes (“In the Sahara Desert, I once sheltered inside the body of a dead camel”). Instead, he presents fact-based scenarios, empowering readers with the tools and basic knowledge they need to be explorers themselves. Occasional photographs are gracefully integrated into spreads featuring simple, accessible art, while profiles of explorers from history—on journeys both ill fated and victorious—may further spark readers’ interest.
