Oscar was sound asleep in his bed when suddenly he heard a crash outside his window. It was Timothy, a woolly mammoth, who’d come searching for his little brother.

Lift the flaps, peek through the windows and open the gatefolds as Timothy and Oscar search through a magical museum of curious creatures to find Teddy before the clock strikes one.

Is he munching sandwiches with a diplodocus in the Dinosaur room? Is he enjoying an aerobics class with the Extinct and Endangered Species? The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth is a riotous adventure, packed with fascinating true facts, plus some groan-worthy, laugh-out-loud puns. With stunning illustrations and pages and pages they’ll want to keep going back to, this brilliantly interactive book brings museums – and their inhabitants – to life!

Amazing Book...Delicate Flaps...

Just want to start off by saying this is a really fun, unique book and I love it. The story is very cute and funny...very reminiscent of Night at the Museum where the exhibits at the museum come to life at night. In this story...the little boy has to help find the missing baby mammoth. What makes this book really special though is that it is a fun mix of fiction (the plot I have just described) and also non-fiction! Under the flaps throughout the book there are lots of great, interesting facts about the different museum exhibits! The only thing that keeps this from being a perfect book for me is that the flaps are not as sturdy as I am used to from Usborne. I wouldn't recommend this for little ones who are still rough on flaps because they will rip pretty easily...but definitely a great book to read with older toddlers, pre-schoolers, and early elementary children. There's also a mammoth plush that can be purchased separately and it is SO soft and cute...definitely recommend that as a great gift to go with this book!

Not your typical flap book

I love this book and so do my kids!

Like another reviewer said, it reminds me of Night at the Museum where the exhibits come to life at night and all the fun and silliness that comes with that.  It, of course, has the greatness of other Usborne flap books in that while you are searching for the baby mammoth, you learn all about museums and the displays in museums (everything from Van Gogh, Bessie Coleman (google her!), and corals to the Dodo bird).

I agree that this is probably more suitable for preschoolers and early elementary school students because the flaps are more like a regular book page (thick cardstock in feel) than the thicker flap/board books of other Usborne books.  This would be a fun book to read before a trip to the museum to spark a child's interest in the museum.
